In celebration of Plastic Free July Wingecarribee Shire Council will be hosting a free community screening of the environmental documentary ‘Bag It’ at Mittagong Playhouse on Sunday 29 July.
Michael Rhydderch, Council’s Environmental Project Officer said the film followed the journeys of Jeb Berrier as he tries to make sense of our dependence on plastic bags.
“The film explores the issue of pollution and identifies how our daily reliance on plastic threatens not only waterways and marine life, but human health too,” he said.
Prior to the screening guest speaker Huw Kingston will share his story and lessons learned in advocating for the reduction of plastic pollution.
“Huw has long been involved in the fight against plastic pollution worldwide,” said Michael.
“Huw instigated the Bundy on Tap movement which saw his home town of Bundanoon become the world’s first bottled water free town in 2009,” he continued.
Following the screening audience members will be invited to share some of their ideas on how they have reduced their plastic usage.
“Council holds numerous waste reduction courses throughout the year but often the best ideas come from our residents themselves,” Michael added.
Movie patrons will also receive a plastic free information pack at the conclusion of the film with practical examples on how to reduce plastic usage.
